For the last couple of years, as a Pagan/Polytheist alternative to the traditional ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ (26th December – 6th January) I have been practicing twelve days of devotion to Gwyn ap Nudd, my patron God, as a Brythonic Winter King.
This year, over the twelve days, I am going to be meditating on the following aspects of His identity and mythos and writing and sharing devotional poems addressed to Him.
I. Your Birth
II. Your Boyhood
III. Your Hunt
IV. Your Beloved
V. Your Battle
VI. Winter
VII. Your Horse
VIII. Your Hound
IX. Your Doors
X. Your Kingdom
XI. Your Cauldron
XII. Your Death

If you would like to join in with this or do something similar for Gwyn or your personal Gods please feel welcome and let me know how it goes.
Thank you, Lorna,
invitation received with pleasure.
Sending well wishes on your winter journey.
Pete
Thanks for accepting. Do let me know how it goes š
It is always fascinating to see how we pagans can take in idea that does not fit our beliefs, and because it is so familiar repurpose it in another guise. Doing so enriches our practice and allows us to go deeper in our understanding. I have done a similar thing with the Advent wreath – a power symbol from when I was a Christian. May your journey with Gwyn on these twelve days bring you insights and renewal.
Dear Lorna
What a wonderful idea! I will be joining in! Wishing you many blessings for the 12 days of devotion to Gwyn!
Blessings of the winter! Hayley x

Hi Lorna
Had a fascinating journey was awake really early 5am so lit a candle for my usual prayers then meditated on the birth of Gwyn! I shall write up the experience on the Monastery page later! Thank you again for the inspiration I really feel like I am getting to know Gwyn on a much deeper level since joining the Monastery it has really strengthened my practice and beliefs!

Great to hear that. I’m an early riser too – up at 4.30am. I find this a magical time and meditate and connect with the Gods best before other humans are up and about and ‘the machine’ gets going. I’ll look forward to reading about your experience š
This sounds like a beautiful custom to keep! In my own practice I’ve been observing a sacred “12 days” from the Winter Solstice to New Years Day (Dec 21-Jan 1) for the past few years, and I find this time to be very rich and fruitful.
Blessings on you, and on this sacred journey!
I had been called to do something in depth in honouring Gwyn this Winter, so when this blog post popped up in my email I thought it was both wonderful timing a message received ⤠I surely will be joining you on this journey!
Thank you Phae do let me know how it goes š
